P3Dv4+ Martin JRM Mars
P3Dv4+ Martin JRM Mars (Category: Prepar3d > Vintage)
66.87Mb (267 downloads)
The infamous Martin JRM Mars, the world's largest flying boat to be in military service returns to the simulation community with this variation of the original AI Released Mars from Alphasim for FS9 in 2005, then modified flyable by A.F. Scrub for FS9/FSX, now overhaled to take advantage of P3Dv4+'s texture rendering in 2021/2022. Extensive overhauls of the external model to allow for the application of PBR and a significant overhaul of the VC and interior model were also achieved. The package includes 4 liveries for the Mars. 3 of which are representative of the Mars decades long service as an aerial firefighting aircraft. Liveries represented are Hawaii Mars in USFS and Canadian service markings. As well as Philippine Mars in Canadian and her original United States Navy livery she resides in currently. The Mars in firefighting service was able to carry 7,200 US Gallons or over 27,000L of water aboard. Which it could refill it's tanks in under an astonishing 30 seconds with specially modified retractable scoops in it's belly. This model is only compatible with P3Dv4 or above. Original model by Alphasim, P3D Conversion and liveries by Nicholas Mitchell.

The first JRM-1 (BuNo 76819), the "Hawaii Mars", was completed in late June 1945 and flown several times before being christened and launched on 27 July 1945. Before testing was completed the Hawaii Mars was lost on 5 August 1945. The present Hawaii Mars operating out of Port Alberni (Sproat Lake) as part of Flying Tankers Inc., was delivered April 23, 1946, as part of the last four remaining JRM's which were bought by the British Columbia forest industry to fight forest fires, The Marianas Mars was lost on 23 June 1960 when the Captain disregarded the spotter plane and attacked a fire directly uphill. The Winter of 1962 claimed another Mars, the Caroline. She was tethered to the ramp at Patricia Bay when Hurricane Frieda hie. Frieda tossed the big boat about as if it was a toy, and by morning she laid bent and broken, her flying days over. The owners of the last two remaining JRM's in the world are looking to sell the giants, as operating costs, and spare parts get harder to find. On Sunday April 15 it was announced in the Victoria "Times Colunist" that the planes had been sold by Timber West to Coulson Aircrane Ltd. of Port Alberni. The model is by Peter Hall using FSDS 3.0. (my first attempt at modeling an aircraft). The Flight Dynamics for this aircraft were written by Bob Chilico, Windsor, Ontario. Sounds: For this first release I have included the DC-3 sounds. You candownload a really nice set of heavy radial engine sounds by Des Braban, from "fltsim.com" or Avsim. Please read his readme file for a description of the sounds. I really like them. The panel was developed by Mike Stone for his Boeing 314 Clipper, and looks good in the Mars. Just make sure that you copy the "b314" and the "Douglas_DC3" zip files (included in the panel folder) to your main gauges folder. Thanks to Jens B. Kristensen for putting me straight on Polygon smoothing groups.

            Italy scenery for CFS
Northern Italy scenery for CFS (Category: CFS1 > Scenery)
0.42Mb (435 downloads)
Northern Italy scenery for CFS. Scenery files, built using Martin Wright's CFSClass, covering all of Italy north of latitude 44 degrees N, up to the default scenery. The scenery extends East-West roughly between longitudes 7 degrees E to 14 degrees E, or from the western tip of Lake Geneva as far east as is covered by the default scenery. Together with CFSItaly (CFSItaly.zip, available at this site) this completes all of Italy from Sicily to Switzerland. (The scenery matches onto Cryingtoto's Provence, which extends west from the Italian border to Marseilles.) Uses only standard CFS textures. By C Burgess. 426K
