Welcome back!

The Malibu Flight Center is, as it was during Fs2000, still a fairly small scenery area compared to most others on this site, but it is probably also still the most fun to fly into.  Perhaps more fun now with the addition of an entire new facility on the beach for seaplane ops!

Original AFC2 (upper)

AFC2 (lower)

Malibu, California

AFC2 "x 2"
For the original version of Malibu during in 2001 I had the idea of splitting the scenery up into two sections with one being down on the beach for seaplane ops but decided not to because I didn't particularly care for the limits of water operations in Fs2000. Besides, there is always the possibility of splitting it for version 2 right?  Needless to say, the two sections of this scenery are due to the fact that Microsoft finally gave us real water to use for water ops and I would rather bring back Malibu for Fs2002 than redesign a whole new scenery just for seaplanes.  Either way, I basically ended up doing both!  Malibu is now divided into Upper and Lower sections each with their own runways and accomodations (although the upper section is still the main facility as it always has been).  Since they are both part of the same "airport" both facilities have the same designation of "AFC2" in the airport menu, map view, and GPS.

"Up the hill"
This area is listed in the airport menu as Malibu (upper). The original runway, hangars and buildings from the first version of Malibu are all still here, however they are all new macro's and none of the APT & VOD scenery textures should be needed. The only thing taken out of the previous version is that there is no VOR in this scenery. The main runway for the Flight Center is located here, and can handle some reasonably large jets provided they can turn around on the width of the runway. Elevation is still 1444MSL.

"down at Sea Level"
This part of the scenery is listed as Malibu (lower) and can be found the same way you would any other scenery by searching city/state (Malibu, Ca.) or by the airport identifier (Ident: AFC2).  Originally this area was planned for a few hangars and a sealane, but since there are a few small piston engined aircraft planned (ARX-6, ARX-13 for example) there is 2000ft asphalt runway added at sea level for flight test and time to climb flights as well as whatever you'd need a paved runway for. The Sealane landing area is marked 10,000ft by 300ft on a 270°/90° heading as well as several piers for water operations whether it's for a boat or a plane.

Hey, why are you looking way down here?

Oh well, since you're here,.....There's an easter egg in this scenery: something hidden, that is something good.  This easter egg is for the helicopter guru's out there,... At the lower malibu facility there is a 156ft private yacht docked on the outter pier with a Scorpion helicopter on the pad, this is only the example.

Now, somewhere along the California coast there is the same yacht, but without the Scorpion in the way!  It has an open pad that is hardened for landings if you dare attempt it.  It's a bit tricky, you'll know when you've found it, the yacht is called Pyrámide en la Sol (get it?).
