Here is a 'How To' on

Adding Guns to your CFS Aircraft.

Revision 1 29th October 1999

BE SURE TO SAVE THE ORIGINAL DP FILE.
YOU MAY WANT TO REFER BACK TO IT LATER.

Start by opening Notepad. Go to the folder of the plane you wish to modify .
Open the folder then select all files. then select the dp file for that plane.
Now scroll down to the gunstations.

Ok let's get started.

The gun stations appear like this:

EXAMPLE

[gunstations]
gunstation.0-0-2,1,0.08,839,2,0.01,500,2,40,1d1*14,2.893,0.243828125,0,-0.1196,0,0.5525,0,0,0,0,1.6

This is the first part of the gunstations section. The first 0 is the number of the gun as it appears in DP editor.

The 0 after the = mark is the trigger I D or type,( 0 = primary trigger,1 = cannons and other machine guns that you do not wish shoot with your primary guns, which is usually your wing mounted guns, 2 = rockets and 3 = bombs)

The -2 is the tag number for the type of gun or the makers model.

The 0.08 is the number of rounds per second. (you will enter this as a whole number in DP EDITOR, meaning if you want 100 rounds per second you simply put in 100.

The 839 is the muzzle velocity. To keep the lag down in the games do not go over the stock number more than 1500 feet per second

The next 2 is how long the round stays alive in the game. Increasing this number is the main cause of lag and the reason for mods locking up in the game.

The 0.01 is the muzzle flash. 0.01 is machine guns, 0.05 is for cannons, 0.06, 0.07, 0.08 are also for cannons. DP EDITOR only gives you 0.01 and 0.05 but these numbers also work.

The 500 is the range in meters that A1 aircraft will fire the given weapon. 500 for fighters and 1000 for turrets. I have been told that 2000 works well leaving the round life at 2.

The next 2 is the gun sound. The numbers go from 0 to 6 but DP EDITOR only tells you 0 to 5. The 6 is the flaker sound.

The 40 is the percentage of your rounds that are tracers. You also enter this as a whole number. Also to keep down the lag do not set more than 2 guns at 100, then set the rest to 0 so the processor does not have as much work to do keeping up with all the calculations.

The 1d1*14 is the damage dice. The 1d1 means there is a 1 in 1 chance of the rounds doing damage. Do not change this number. By changing it the processor works harder causing lag. The 14 is the amount of damage the round does. The maximum number the game supports is 6000. This is the same as a bomb. increasing this number also causes lag.

The next 10 number is where the guns are aimed and their offsets and the range of movement they have when being fired.( recoil ) To have a plane that looks like it has not had guns added, refer to the original dp file for these setting.

The 1.6 is the weight of the round. Be sure not to get the rounds too heavy or your plane will fly like a brick .

The last part of the gunstation looks like this:

EXAMPLE
[gun.0]
gun.0=2,0,0,0,0,0,1,2

Here is where u do the real gun adding.

The [gun.0] refers to the gunstation. If u added more stations than the plane originally came with you just change the number in the [ ] .

EXAMPLE

[gun.0] [gun.1], [gun.2], [gun.3], and so on.

The gun.0=2,0,0,0,0,0,1,2 refers to the gun / guns at that station.
so if you wanted 6 guns at this station it would look like this

gun.0=2,0,0,0,0,0,1,2
gun.1=2,0,0,0,0,0,1,2
gun.3=2,0,0,0,0,0,1,2
gun.4=2,0,0,0,0,0,1,2
gun.5=2,0,0,0,0,0,1,2
gun.6=2,0,0,0,0,0,1,2

The gun.0 is the gun number at that station.

The 2 is the maximum ammo for that gun. Keep this number low or the plane will fly like a brick.

The next 5 numbers are where the gun is mounted on the plane. If you want a realistic looking plane then refer back to the original dp file. If the plane had 3 original guns at this station then copy the three original settings then copy them again if you added three more guns to this station. What you do to one side you HAVE TO do to the other. This is to keep the balance of the plane correct.

The 1 is for tracers. 0 means there are no tracers and 1 means yes there are tracers.

The last number is the default ammo. Try keeping this number low or your plane will fly like a brick.

NOW YOU ARE READY TO CLOSE THIS FILE. BE SURE TO HIT SAVE CHANGES OR THE WORK YOU DID WILL BE LOST.

NOW OPEN DP EDITOR:

Select the plane which you just added the guns to and open the dp file.
You may get an error message saying invalid or armament. Don't worry, we will fix whatever it does not like before we are done here.

IF IN THE BOTTOM BOXES THERE ARE NO NUMBERS REFER BACK TO THE ORIGINAL DP FILE.
Use the first line of the second part of the gun stations to fill them in.

The rest is up to you. The DP EDITOR pretty much guides you through the rest.

GETTING THE AIM DOWN RIGHT JUST TAKES PRACTICE.
