AA Motion Sequence Table

In many postings, I've seen requests for help on how to get more (or less) than the default 90-degree rotation in a motion sequence. The basics of motion sequences are covered in the Aircraft Animator help files, so suffice it to say that the degrees of rotation is governed by a simple formula:

Degrees = (% of cycle time) x (speed factor) x 90-degrees.

So a sequence of 0-25:4;50-75:0;75-100:-4 would be read as:

  • "Rotate the part for the first 25% of the cycle at 4x the normal speed" which gives you a 90-deg rotation, then...
  • "Hold it for the next 50% of the time" (speed =0); and finally..
  • "Reverse the rotation for the last 25% of the time at 4x the speed". The "-" sign in the speed factor gives you the reversal in rotation, so you get a -90 degree motion.

Armed with the formula and the basics, it's a matter of juggling speed and precentage of cycle time to get a desired rotation.

To that end, I've made up a rather long table that has % of time (downwards from 100% to 1%) on the vertical axis, and speeds from 1 thru 10 on the horizontal axis.

You'll actually end up selecting the degrees of rotation you want, and then looking up the percentage of time and speed you need to plug in the motion sequence.
