============================= CONCORDE "LEGACY" PROJECT ============================= Version: 1.0 Date: May 2019 Author: Philippe Marion Email: marionphilippe@hotmail.com INTRODUCTION: --------------- The Concorde "Legacy" Project is my modest attempt to create the most accurate and easy to fly Concorde for FSX. Arguably the most beautiful commercial airliner ever created, Concorde represents the ultimate flying machine for many aviation enthousiasts and flight simmers. Sadly, in the hundreds of thousand of freeware add-ons for FSX, only a few have been made for Concorde, and even though they are good in many ways, none of them are perfect. So I decided to put all the good bits from all this existing material into my own Concorde project, which I called "Legacy" for that reason. I sincerely hope to have done it justice. CREDITS: --------- List of talented people that have been working on the Concorde over the years and without who this project would not have been possible. Thank you to all! - Libardo Guzman Garcia (Model) - Philippe Wallaert (Original Gauges) - Hans Zuidervaart (Other Gauges) - Andiroto (Flight Engineer Panel) - Kelvin Keeble (Sound Package) - Garrett Smith (FMC) - Dietmar Loleit (TCAS) - Charles Owen (Icing Mod) - Doug Dawson (DSD XML Gauge) Apologies if I missed someone. CONCORDE.AIR FILE: -------------------- New Concorde.air file where all airframes specifications have been checked and adjusted when necessary. NEW FEATURES: ---------------- 2D Panel: --------- I created a new 2D panel from scratch (4:3 @ 1280 x 960 px) for 2 reasons: 1) because I wanted to use the dynamic visor. 2) because I couldn't fit all the gauges correctly in existing panels. Also added a night version of the panel. 2D Panel Gauges: ------------- Mostly based on the excellent xml Concorde gauges by Philippe Wallaert, every single gauge has been reworked! I created some new gauges that were missing and removed some gauges that were redundant. The night lighting has also been adjusted for all gauges. FE Panel Gauges: ---------------- Based on Andiroto beautiful Flight Engineer Panel Mod. All xml files have been reworked. The Auto CG feature has been modified (See new CoG and Fuel Management below). Many redundant files have been removed and the night lighting has been adjusted here too. 3D Panel (VC): -------------- Unfortunately I was unsuccessful in making the 3D panel work properly. Gauges have been re-arranged and are generally working fine but sadly they are not clickable and are without night lighting. It was always going to be a challenge since there is no interior model, so no real VC. The sad thing is that the interior actually exists inside the main model ... Extra (Audio) Gauges: --------------------- I added new secondary gauges, mostly specific to Concorde. - V1 Gauge: New extended V1 gauge calling: 80 knots, V1, VR, V2, Positive rate - Gear up, Gear going up, Gear up and locked. Calculations are based on the aircraft's weight, and features a display in the 2D Panel (Top left corner). - Callout Gauge: New extended gauge calling: 2500, 1000, 500, 400, 300, 200, 100, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10 (or Retard Retard). At reaching 10 feet, if the throttles are above 3% the gauge will call "Retard Retard", otherwise it will call "10". - Sonic Boom Gauge: New gauge playing a "bang" sound when reaching Mach 1 and Mach 2. Although every care has been taken to avoid repeating boom sounds, it could still happen in certain situations. - Brake Sound Gauge: New gauge producing a sound on the ground, when taxiing at speeds below 15 knots. Extra (Non Audio) Gauges: ------------------------- - Visor Dynamic: Adapted for the new 1280px panel. - Wing Condens (BETA): new but unused gauge. Good xml code but needs the correct effect to display properly. NEW ICON SET: --------------- I created a complete set of new 32x32 Icons for this exceptional aircraft, called Icons32. Feel free to use them in any other project. Main 2D Panel Windows: ----------------------- THROTTLE Panel: New more realistic center console throttle panel. Includes a weather radar gauge, parking brake handle and trim controls. INS (Inertial Navigation System) doesn't work. Please use FMC instead. FUEL Panel: New, based on 5 tanks with trim tank: Left, Right, C1, C2 and C3. Managing fuel is one of the most important factor in flying Concorde other long distances. A direct link to the FE Panel is provided to get quick access to the Auto CG feature. OVERHEAD Panel: New custom panel compatible with the Dynamic Visor. Features include passenger cabin controls, lights and fuel heater functions. FLIGHT ENGINEER RADIO GPS FMC KNEEBOARD MAP CABIN CoG and Fuel Management: -------------------------- Concorde is a unique aircraft when it comes to the Center Of Gravity (CoG). It was designed with the ability to pump fuel between trim tanks located at the front and at the rear of the aircraft. Fuel weight is the main factor affecting the CoG. As the fuel gets burned during flight, the weight of Concorde changes quite dramatically. A correctly balanced CoG will allow the airplane to fly generally better, but is critical when coming into landing after a long flight. My initial idea was to replicate this as accurately as possible in this project but I quickly realised that it didn't work as expected. So I brought the trim tanks (C2 and C3) closer to the Center Of Lift (CoL) and by doing so, reduced the fluctuations of the CoG. This means that even after a 3000 miles flight, and even without using the "Auto CG" feature on the Flight Engineer Panel, you should still be able to land the plane safely with less than 10% fuel left in the tanks.
