1.TAKEOFF(Airfield)

(i) On takeoff, the Sea Shrike performs a notable swing to port due to the torque of the propellar. This tendency can be easily counter-acted by course use of the rudder.

(ii) The Sea Shrike also has a tendency to "nose-over" when taking off, especially in conditions where the flaps are deployed. To eliminate this danger, gently pull back the 'stick as soon as the tailwheel begins to rise. This should also enable the pilot to significantly reduce the take-off distance required.

2.Takeoff(Ship)
With special attention paid when carrying external stores. Results from practice flight, carrying full bomb load(1000lb),ship steaming into wind, with 30 knots of wind at deck level.

(i)Ensure that the canopy is in the open and locked position, and that the parking brakes are on.After the engine start sequence is complete, increase throttle to the 50 % setting. With the engine running, release the parking brake, the aircraft should start to move forwards slowly. As with land takeoffs, the Sea Shrike will pull to port and also,if left unattended, nose over.See the above notes on how to eliminate this.

If all the above measures are taken, the aircraft should climb steadily.
