This is an update for FSx of the freeware Iris F-15 C/D/J. I have eliminated all models other than the clean ones, and removed most of the textures so there are only 3 paints left. I have updated the flight dynamics, which included changing all the contact points as well as the positions of the wings, horizontal tail and the virtical tail. I added a trim gauge to the 2D cockpit, also added the gear lights from the VC, a speed brake light, a flaps gauge, and another autopilot because I found the one with the aircraft less than intuitive. This is the whole aircraft, minus the previously mentioned files. Unzip to a folder of your choice. Copy the aircraft folder to the main FS airplanes folder. Copy the effects and the gauges to the main FS effects and gauges folder, no need to overwrite anything already there. The textures in the effects folder go in the texture folder inside the main FS effects folder. The sound in the sound folder is from the original aircraft sound folder. I found it annoying to have the breathing sound of the pilot there. If you want it there, just copy it back to the aircraft sound folder. The new autopilot can be toggled by using shift+5. You probably don't need it if you have no trouble working with the one that came with the aircraft. I have left the fuel what it was, so it is like you are flying one of the 3 tank versions. If you want to change this to reflect no tanks; go to the fuel section of the aircraft.cfg file and remark out the external tanks. Don't delete them, you may decide you want them back. I also left in all the entries for the external stores. I just remarked them out so the extra weight is not there. I found that the drift to the left while moving down the runway was due to the pilot not being centred; instead of being 0.00, the offset was -1.11. THIS AIRCRAFT CANNOT BE USED WITH THE ORIGINAL AIRCRAFT IN FSX. ONLY ONE OR THE OTHER CAN BE USED AS THE PAINT ENTRIES ARE PARTIALLY THE SAME. IF YOU LIKE THIS ONE BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL, BUT WANT ALL THE MODELS AND PAINTS; DELETE THE PAINT SECTIONS FROM THIS ONE AND COPY THE PAINT SECTIONS FROM THE ORIGINAL TO THE NEW AIRCRAFT.CFG FILE. YOU WILL HAVE TO ADD THE OTHER MODEL AND TEXTURE FOLDERS TO THE AIRCRAFT AS WELL. YOU WILL ALSO NEED TO ADD THE REST OF THE PICTURES NEEDED TO SEE THEM ON THE CHOOSE THE AIRCRAFT SCREEN. THAT MEANS MAKING 103 MORE THUMBNAIL IMAGES IF YOU ADD THEM ALL. [Reference Speeds] flaps_up_stall_speed= 135.00 full_flaps_stall_speed=125.00 cruise_speed=560.00 //knots over the ground at 36,000 ft. (342 indicated, mach 0.97) max_indicated_speed=1600.00 max_mach=2.80 max_level_speed= mach 2.5 //at 36,000 ft. (885 indicated) The above reference speeds are a guide that should be paid attention to, so you don't run into trouble while landing. I found 140 to 150 knots on approach OK. It all depends on what speed you find it easiest to use so you can touch down about 10 knots above stall speed. Trying to touch down at exactly stall speed, particularly in real life, is asking to stall too high for a safe landing. Tip: If the auto wing tip contrails in FSX are too far out, and/or high or low: The wing span is not correct, and or the wing apex and height might be wrong. These are what FSX Acceleration uses to place where the effects start. Wing sweep may also be a factor, of that I am not sure at present. Anyone: You have my permission to use any of my updates with the following conditions: One, you don't try to make money with them. Two, you don't try to hurt, or take something from anyone by using them. Bob Chicilo. bchicilo@bell.net
