FSX Boeing C-97 Version 03

This is a complete Boeing 367 / C-97 Stratofreighter and Stratotanker package.
It includes the soundset and all previous versions, patches and updates. There
are six exterior models including the YC- 97A (new), C-97G, EC-97G, KC-97G,
HC-97G, and KC-97L (also new). By Roland Berger (testing), Manfred Jahn
(models, textures, Monitor gauge), William N. Davidson (testing), Dan McManus
(technical research, VC and panel textures, crew calls) Wayne Tudor (Flight
Data Envelope), Ted Wolfgang (soundset). Interior models adapted from Greg
Pepper's original FS2002 model.

Two paintkits are available as FSX Addons from the Warbirds Library at Sim Outhouse
(www.sim-outhouse.com). You have to be a registered member to be able to download.

Minimum system-requirement is FSX SP2, FSX Gold Edition or Acceleration recommended.

INSTALLATION

(1) If you already have a Team Strat "Boeing_C-97" folder in your
"Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes" then move the whole folder to a backup
location outside FSX. (You may need the old aircraft.cfg and your preferred add-on textures in step
5.)

(2) Extract the zip to a temporary folder or open it in Windows Explorer.

(3) Copy the zip's "Boeing_C-97" folder to "Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes"
creating a new Boeing_C-97 folder in folder Airplanes.

(4) Copy the effects files in zip folder "Effects" to "Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Effects\".

(5) Previous users: From the backup folder created in step (1) copy any previously downloaded
textures back to the new Boeing_C-97 folder. Edit the new aircraft.cfg to include the [fltsim]
sections for the additional textures. Make sure your fltsim sections are numbered in proper
sequence.

(6) As always, in FSX you may be prompted to accept certain gauge modules as trusted software.
These are widely used FS modules (see credits, below).

NOTES

(1) Use the 'Monitor' gauge (Shift-4) to handle most aircraft functions. Click the Help buttons in
Monitor to show help screens for all subpanels. Get individual tool tips by hovering the mouse over
click spots (you may need to be in windowed mode to see them).

Note on abbreviations: "L", "R", and "mid" in Help screens and tooltips refer to clicking the
left, right, and middle mouse buttons, respectively.

(2) Flying tips. Click Monitor > Misc > Chk to call up the standard checklist.

(3) Key assignments. You can use your 'tailhook' command to lower or raise the boom on tanker
aircraft or the rear ramp on freighter aircraft (you may have to assign your own special key via FSX
Settings > Controls > Buttons/Keys). Ctrl-W or whatever is currently assigned for 'water-rudder'
will trigger engine reversing. Reversing mode needs to be armed via Monitor > Engines > mid-click
on 'REV'.

(4) Crew Calls. If you want some of the Monitor commands to be accompanied by interphone crew
calls then activate the small loudspeaker icon at the bottom of the Monitor > Flight subpanel. The
crew calls are editable wav files in Boeing_C-97\panel\DSDSounds\. See file
00__dsd_fsx_xml_sound.txt for help.

(5) Automixture (FSX Settings > Realism > Engines > enable automixture) may be left on or off. If
ON, you will get FSX prompts when changing altitude and can either adjust mixture manually or
mid-click Monitor > Engines > Mixture (value) for "set best".

(6) Radio altimeter. The decision height setting defaults to zero feet AGL. Use the left knob on the
radio altimeter gauge to set it (in the VC: right click increases, left click decreases). If Crew Calls
are ON the co-pilot will call out "decision height".

(7) Jet engines (on the KC-97L Stratotanker only). In Monitor > Engines, click the blue button
marked 'J' next to the engine numbers. Once you hear the jets the additional jet power is simulated
by setting War Emergency Power (FSX SP2 setups) or nitrous injection boost (FSXA) (check
engine parameters in aircraft.cfg for tweaking). When the jet engines are running the MAP readings
on the piston gauges will usually go beyond max. Our recommendation is that the jets should only
be used at altitudes of 10,000 feet or below. In real life, they were primarily used during the
refueling run, as well as sometimes for takeoff and emergency situations. Jet assist will eventually
take you well above the plane's overspeed limit, so you'll have to watch out for this.
