September 23, 2011 9/23/11 23 September 2011 Ryan Gabuyo (rgabuyo17@gmail.com) Turn WORD WRAP on! *Background information:* From a simple livery to an elaborate one; this paint follows my recent release of the Thomas Ruth A330-200 in Air Europa livery, which was very simple compared to this! I decided to take this paint on despite it being non-existant as it was very colorful and was actually a request; I present to you the Thomas Ruth A340-300 in Air Jamaica's old (colorful) livery! The colors weren't that hard to paint on the fuselage, but curving them up to the tail and matching them perfectly with stripes on the tail became an instant nightmare. I originally had that part completed before I left the computer and took a nap without saving it, then Windows Update restarted my computer and I started all over again; though while doing that I also changed darkened a couple of the colors to match the real thing. Once that was done, the black blob on the front of the fuselage took a bit of working around with...it had to curve right at the border between the orange and pink stripe, and after that it was curving the gray belly on the gear doors, this was another type of separate-texture-matching similar to matching the fuselage textures with the tail. Criticisms: The stripes actually meet the tail a bit farther down the fuselage, where there is a bit of a bump at the base of the tail. I could not extend the colors that far down the fuselage and at the same time touch key corners of doors/windows, so that is one imperfection. Near the front pair of doors the font of "Spirit of Jamaica" is only a varation of the real font, which I could not find. The font I used is "Palace Script MT". The bird logo on the tail is brighter than the yellow that covers the main fuselage; this is the color from the official Air Jamaica logo and I can't tell for sure whether or not they match, but nonetheless I left the logo brighter. *Installation:* ~Pre: Make sure you have a service pack from Microsoft (google "sp1 fsx" [and if you want, "sp2 fsx" after that]), or the Gold/Acceleration expansion pack, otherwise the fuselage and tail will be either invisible or appear black. Of course you must have installed the Thomas Ruth A340-300 first. I've included two texture variations, one of which being higher-quality 32bit textures, the other being compressed DXT3 textures. In general the difference isn't so noticeable, but with all the stripes the edges may be fuzzy for DXT3 textures. Note that 32bit textures are four times as large in filesize as DXT3 and will use more resources as a result, but this won't matter so much as it's only three 32bit textures as opposed to many on other developers' aircraft (and maybe on some AI plane textures if you have them). 1.) Choose the texture variation of your choice, either 32bit or DXT3 and enter that folder and copy the enclosed "texture.AJM" folder into the "Tom_A340-300" folder. 2.) Copy the text in "fltsim.txt" and add it to the "aircraft.cfg" in the "Tom_A340-300" folder. Change the "X" in "[fltsim.X]" to the next corresponding number after the latest fltsim entry. (i.e. if the last entry is [fltsim.10] then change the X to [fltsim.11]) 3.) Save and close. Re-load the aircraft list if you want to choose the plane. That's it! *Final/Legal:* This file is freeware and is to remain freeware. Money cannot be made from this file. This file cannot be included in bundles/packages without asking or crediting myself. In minor cases I will decline requests of aircraft representing aircraft that no longer operate or the airline is defunct, or is in a different livery present-day, but some I may take on. I will also choose not to take on paints for aircraft models I have never painted for or one that I've never heard of (there is some leniency, i.e. painting Thomas Ruth aircraft I may be able to paint any other heavy Airbuses in his fleet, or other planes in the Project Opensky/Freesky Project/SkySpirit family). Finally, most of the time I won't do a livery that seems too hard for me or something like a "special" livery where it may be difficult to find logos or livery elements, examples include (but are not limited to) Qantas' "Wunala Dreaming", Cathay's "Asia's World City", and Dragonair's "excessively-complicated-dragon-thingymabob" livery (besides, these three liveries have already been painted!) In all though, I just paint what I want, and out of nowhere, so most of the time I won't respond to paint requests.
