FSX Boeing C-97 V.1 Beta Basepack

FSX Boeing model 367 / C-97 Stratofreighter / Stratotanker. By Roland Berger (testing), Manfred
Jahn (models, textures, Monitor gauge), Dan McManus (technical research, VC and panel textures,
crew calls) Wayne Tudor (Flight Data Envelope), Ted Wolfgang (soundset). Interior model adapted
from Greg Pepper's original FS2002 model.

A paintkit is available as an FSX Addon in the Warbirds Library at Sim Outhouse (www.sim-
outhouse.com). You have to be a registered member to be able to download. The direct link is

Future releases are planned to include comprehensive documentation, more C-97 and KC-97
variants, and an AI version.

Minimum system-requirement is FSX SP2, FSX Gold Edition or Acceleration recommended.

INSTALLATION

(1) Extract the zip to a temporary folder or open it in Windows Explorer.

(2) There are two subfolders: Effects and Simobjects. Copy these two folders directly to your main
"Flight Simulator X" folder using "merge" or "integrate folders" mode when prompted (do NOT use
"replace"). Should you have any misgivings about this procedure play it safe, i.e. copy the files and
folders individually to the appropriate FSX folders.

(3) The one aircraft provided in this version will show up as "Boeing KC-97G Stratotanker 30136"
in the Simulator's aircraft selection menu.

(4) When flying the aircraft for the first time you will be asked to accept four gauge modules as
trusted software. These are widely used FS modules so you can safely OK them.

NOTES

(1) Monitor gauge. At this Beta stage use the 'Monitor' gauge (Shift-4) to handle most aircraft
functions. Hit Shift-3 or click the '?' button in Monitor to show a help screen. Get individual tool
tips by hovering the mouse over click spots (you may need to be in windowed mode to see them).
Click spots can sit on names, values, and presets. Mid-clicks usually set a default while L-clicks
decrease and R-clicks increase a setting (e.g. for flaps). Mouse wheel and presets can be used to
change settings quickly (e.g. Flaps > 'D' for full down, or Autopilot > Heading > 'N' for flying due
North).

(2) Flying tips. Click Monitor > Misc > Chk to call up the standard checklist containing basic
instructions including slow engine start, boomer ops etc.

(3) Key assignments. Use your 'tailhook' command to lower or raise the boom on tanker aircraft
(you may have to assign your own special key via FSX Settings > Controls > Buttons/Keys). Ctrl-W
or whatever is currently assigned for 'water-rudder' will trigger engine reversing (this needs to be
armed via Monitor > Engines > mid-click on 'REV').

(4) Crew Calls. If you want some of the Monitor commands to be accompanied by interphone crew
chatter then activate the small loudspeaker icon at the bottom of the Monitor > Flight subpanel. The
crew calls are editable .wav files in Boeing_C-97\panel\DSDSounds\. See file
00__dsd_fsx_xml_sound.txt for help.

(5) Automixture (FSX Settings > Realism > Engines > enable automixture) may be left on or off. If
ON, you will get FSX prompts when changing altitude and can either adjust mixture manually or
mid-click Monitor > Engines > Mixture value for "set best".
