FSX - King Silver Crown Series - Radios / Radio Stack of the 1970's

In the spirit of the FlightSim.Com Radio Packages of gbbendrs.ZIP and gbbkscrs.ZIP, I wanted to "add" the original King Silver Crown series, that preceeded these two offerings.

gbbendrs.ZIP has within it King products of KA134 - KY96A.

gbbkscrs.ZIP has within it King products of KLN89A - KX155_SC.

King_Silver.CAB/.ZIP contains a collection of "older" King radios, that include;

KMA 20 Audio Panel, which I got all its features to work accept the "Auto" feature, because MS-FSX simply cannot provide the necessary supporting scripts to allow the "automatic Com Receiver selection" as the actual KMA 20 I had in our Cherokee. So I made sure the "Auto" function toggles the Com Audio switches for you, as you select the Com to transmit on as if the Auto feature was working.

My efforts in building the proper XML logic, simply didn't make the "use" of this audio panel reliable, to allow both Com Receivers to be heard at once as so many Audio Panels do, so I backed down a level or two in the design of the KMA 20, to allow the Com Transmit selector to be useful in flight and moved on with checking out the remaining radios and their operation in actual IFR simulations.

KR85 ADF Radio (no directional panel head).
KR86 "self-contained" ADF Radio with display head.
KX-170 Com 1 / Nav 1 Radio, setup without "Standby" frequency display (see settings below), no VOR/Glideslope Display.
KX-170 Com 2 / Nav 2 Radio, setup without "Standby" frequency display (see settings below), no VOR Display.
KT76A_SC Transponder of the same vintage as the King Series of the time.

I also included two types of "remote" Marker Displays, that follow the "Lamp Test" feature of the KMA 20 Audio Panel. A standard "bar" of lamps as well as individual lamps for "placing on your panel, to "fit" images already found on your main .BMP screen.

One big word of WARNING, these "older radios" do NOT have Standby Frequency features and therefore require you to tell FSX NOT to expect frequency entry in a Standby Memory. The "zero" in the Comm definitions below, tell FSX there is NO Standby Memory entry. FSX will adjust your "knob adjustments" directly in the main frequency display with the second qualifier = 0.

If you want to enjoy the Frequency Knobs, you must edit you aircraft.cfg file, to include the Nav section as well!

Radio-Settings

in aircraft.cfg should read as follows:

[Radios]
Audio.1=1
Com.1=1, 0
Com.2=1, 0
Nav.1=1, 0, 1
Nav.2=1, 0, 0
Adf.1=1
Transponder.1=1
Marker.1=1

Keep in mind, if you have other "re-paints" within your \Airplane\ sub-directory, the changes to the main "aircraft.cfg" file, will effect all your airplanes that use this aircraft.cfg.

Example: \Airplane\Piper PA28-180C\Aircraft.cfg effects the three Cherokee's found in this variant. The other two Cherokees that have KX-155's in them, the Standby Frequency adjust does not work, while the main aircraft.cfg file remains changed to let the older King Radios work.

I suggest you look into separating your variants, or equip them all with one type of radio package, I did!

I strongly recommend the use of a product like "FS Panel Studio" to access, place and resize your radios to "fit" your panel.

Manual placement is possible but not a method I use nor recommend. If you do not have FS Panel Studio of some type, I recommend utilizing the Forum Resources of FlightSim.Com to help you take advantage of this King Radio Collection.

You will NOT find VOR heads, ADF Heads or a DME display in this package, because there are so many good looking units out there AND in the world of HSI's and newer avionics, I left those up to you to select and use along with your prefered panel "look."

I included a "screen shot" of my Radio Stack "Window" so you can see how the package was delivered. I included the KR86 ADF, for those of us who are tight on panel space and don't have room for another remote ADF indicator head.

That's about it. I hope my efforts better simulate the use of radios we used in the 70's. I learned quick, after 13-years of renting airplanes to use two radios during ATC frequency changes. This was back when the was no "Standby Frequencies" and all we had were standby radios! They work well in FSX, as long as you remember to place your mouse back on the ATC text screen, and get "focus" off the audio panel Com Transmit Selector knob!

Enjoy!

F.Y.I. I "found" all these radios in this package, scattered throughout airplanes on FlightSim.Com. All I did was collect them together and made them work with each other. Yes, the greatest effort was making them all get along with each other and work with the KMA 20 Audio Panel.
