Concept V - Coyote
(ARX-5 Models = A, T, V, X)

The Concept V is a family of aerobatic aircraft with different configurations and different powerplants.

Currently the only released version is the Model X.

Model A
The model A is a standard Lycoming-540 powered single-seat aerobatic aerobatic monoplane - the forerunner to all versions. It is the basic Concept 5.

Model T
The Coyote T is a modified airframe (struts, wings, tail) built around an the standard fuselage with a modified nose for a Pratt & Whitney PT6 turboprop engine. The "Turbo Coyote" is the fastest of the fleet, and is the forerunner to the Model X.

Model V
The model V is a modified version of the Model A, the only difference is a V-tail. The Coyote V is the least popular of the line, as well as the least performing. It's prototype-only and will probably never see public release, but it does indeed exist and may eventually be available here.

Model X
The Model X is based off of, and built around, the 600hp Trace-Orenda V-8 reciprocating aviation engine.  This explains why the nose of the plane has obvious similarities to typical turboprop airplanes. While it is not the fastest of the family, the Coyote X is the best performing aircraft when it comes to aerobatics with the Concept 5 - this is the definitive version of this concept.

The Concept V is a family of aerobatic aircraft with different configurations and different powerplants.

Currently the only released version is the Model X.

Model A
The model A is a standard lycoming-540 powered 1 place aerobatic plane.

Model T
The model T is the forerunner to the model X, it is a modified airframe built around an identical fuselage, but with a Pratt & Whitney PT6 turboprop engine.

Model V
The model V is a modified version of the Model A, the only difference is a V-tail.

Model X
The Model X is based off of, and built around, the 600hp Trace-Orenda V-8 reciprocating aviation engine currently being retrofitted on many turboprop airplanes in the real world.  This explains why the nose of the plane has obvious similarities to typical turboprop airplanes.

Designer's Comments:
This is my first concept release that was made entirely within FSDS.  I started this plane as my transition from AF99 to FSDS, in December 2001 and it was something I tinkered with in my spare time as a way of learning FSDS. In 1996 the first "Coyote" was a concept aerobatic plane I had created just for fun, and never intended to release it. It was based loosely off Mike Goulian's Staudacher S-300GS from the cover of his first book Basic Aerobatics.  It had the characteristics of most unlimited aerobatic planes and was powered by none other than a Lycoming AEIO-540.  I still have no idea why I called it the Coyote,....but the name is the only thing in common with the ARX-5X

Notes:

  • Currently the ARX-5 Model Z is under construction with plans for release.
  • There are no immediate plans to release any other models (A, T, and V). But as always, this is subject to change...
