Bermuda Triangle
AND
Aeroworks Flight Test Center (AFC1)
Scenery for FS2000 by Jason L. Terry

Requirements:
FS2000 and Airport/VOD textures as well as knowledge of installing scenery

Introduction

This scenery area is fairly small, yet dense in some places.  It covers about 20nm altogether, and is centered around Rio Palm Isle, a small 2mile long coral reef / island in the center of the Bermuda Triangle!  Pretty far from the three points of Ft. Lauderdale, Bermuda Is. and Puerto Rico, the test center really is "the middle of nowhere".  The nearest airport is Cockburn Town (MYSM) some 237nm away and it only has a 4500ft runway so plan flights there wisely, the runway is longer at Rio and can allow larger aircraft than Cockburn.

Location of AFC1

This is home to the smallerAeroworks Concept aircraft and you can find them in just about every hangar at the Test Center, but I did leave a few available for parking. Smaller in this case means anything that can takeoff from the 6000ft. runway. Even though I have taken off and landed here in the 737, the largest aircraft based here is the TR-3A Stryker stealth bomber, and there are a few in the larger hangars near the shipping dock.  This place was originally designed as the base of a Helicopter VA called Liberty Air, and I was chosen to design their homebase.  It was to have alot of static aircraft of their main helicopter, which was created and painted by Captain Slug!  It was to be a small island with one runway and MANY helipads.

The Aeroworks Raptor

Nathan Rayl of Liberty Air is the one who gave me the idea and actually layed out the basic shape of the island itself and sent a bitmap image to me.  When the VA failed to takeoff I decided to use the island as a test center for my aerobatic planes and, later on, the ARX-Concepts. Subsequently every aircraft I have made since the Dark Eagle II has been tested and perfected here. There are static versions of the Dark Eagle and Dark Eagle II sitting outside the main hangar. The early pics of the island can be seen here. It was originally created with Airport 2.10 for FS98, however I decided to rework it to FS2000 standards with FSSC.  FSSC allows use of the FS2000 Airport Facility Directory as well as the GPS feature, and you can find this airport by going to the Airport menu and searching for the Airport ID "AFC1" or by going to Carribean menu and searching for "Bermuda Triangle" under Countries. Also you can click FS6 and before scenery and find other starting points on the island other than runways.

What to see and do

...having too much fun!

Rio Palm Isle
The Aeroworks Flight Center # 1 is on this island and the Airport's Identifier is "AFC1".  Here you will find shipping docks, hangars, airport service vehicles, and Lomcovák Headquarters (LHQ). Numerous helipads are spread throughout the island and provide landings for all skill level heli pilots, the hardest are the Dock Helipad and the Waterway Helipad near LHQ, but they're no real challenge for experienced heli operators.  The Heli-Operations have their own hangar where the three main helipads are near the approach end of Runway 12 there you will find 6 Scorpion's parked inside as well as a Coke Machine for those long flights from mainland.

Runways:
Rio Palm Isle consists of 3 different runways of different types and uses.  The main runway is 30/12 (asphalt) which is 6000 x 150 feet and contains an ILS with DME & Glideslope on Runway 30. It is used for most everything that can be flown in and out of the island, mainly larger aircraft and ILS testing on the smaller ones.  Runway 36/18 (concrete) is 2500 x 100 feet and it is what I use for the main runway of the aerobatic planes and light jets.  The hangar with the doors open provides a unique challenge for you aspiring stunt pilots out there.  Runway 9/27 (gravel) is 2000 x 100 and is something I added when I was working on the ARX-1 Glider, and I use it for STOL testing and powerful aerobtic planes that can hop right out of it.  It also provides a unique challenge as the approach end of Rwy 27 is displaced 400 feet due to the palm trees lined up along the waterway!  It requires a bit of planning to land there and it is good for planes with spoilers like the Glider.  There's also a static glider in the Hangar at Rwy 27 as well.

Rio Palm Isle
Crescent Island
This island is too small for any real use although it is fun to land helicopters there!  It's only function is to provide NDB assistance for reaching Rio Palm Isle.

Crescent Island
Other Stuff
No scenery area would be truly complete without a few suprises.  If you search around there is a hidden island somewhere in the triangle, maybe 20nm from Rio as the crow flies (or the Raptor whichever you choose to use~) and it is in a racetrack shape and provides EXCELLENT low-altitude races.  If you find it the island see if you can make a few laps at treetop level staying within the blue reef,...all at full throttle of course!
