AF=Midway Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel
This package contains the boat that put the Higgins in what people
most commonly refer to as the Higgins Boat. Over 20,000 of these small
craft were used by the allies. It was these boats that made the D-Day
landings at Normandy, the Marshalls, Tarawa, Iwo Jima, and hundreds
of lesser-known places possible. Without Higgins' uniquely designed
craft there could not have been a mass landing of troops and material
on European shores or on the beaches of the Pacific islands, at least
not without a tremendously higher rate of Allied casualties. I have
included two versions, one with the .30 Cals and one without. Use
one or both, I've packaged them both as complete ships for ease of
installation. You can also rename it and replace what CFS2 calls the
USS Landing Craft Infantry, which is incorrect as the LCI was a much
different ship. 267K

AF=Midway LCI(L) 351 Class This
package contains both the ramps up and down mdls. Created with Gmax.
The 351 Class was designed using the knowledge gained from the 1-350
Class and was intended as a replacement for them. As it turned out
the 1-350 Class was much heartier than both its designers and the
Navy had imagined. Thus it ended up serving side by side with its
older sibling from the Marshall Islands in the PTO and Normandy in
the ETO through the end of the war. While the 351 Class was set upon
the same basic hull as the 1-350 it was all new above the well deck
and internally. Th bow was raised, a new superstructure and con gave
the 351’s a much beefier and less angular look with rounded corners
and a round con. 747 351 Class LCI(L)’s were completed in two versions.
Almost all of the first 672 had the familiar troop ramps which this
ship represents. There were several in the 700 block that incorporated
the new bow with doors somewhat like an LST. The split door type bow
would be used later on all of the hulls from 1023 to 1098. 607K

AF=Midway Landing Craft Infantry (Large)
1-350 Class With flat bottoms and only a two-foot draft forward, LCI(L)'s
were capable of landing directly on the beach. A stern winch and anchor
enabled the LCI to pull itself off the beach and return to its mother
ship. Originally thought to be “one trip” expendables, they were not
long on habitability or design finesse. The craft turned out to be
more robust and survivable than anticipated. The design was revised
and, with American input, the conning tower extended upward to provide
better visibility, thus producing the first major class – the “square
con” or 1-350 Class. There were two major classes of LCI(L) Landing
Craft Infantry (Large)'s used by the allies in WWII. The 1-350 Class
which this model recreates and there were also two variants of the
351 Class one with the familiar bow ramps and another that utilized
a bow door system like the LST's and LSM's used. The 351 Class is
my next project. Created with Gmax. 268K

AF=Midway - US/GB Landing Craft Tank Mk.
VI LCTs were the Navys all purpose general duty vessel. Besides carrying
tanks ashore they were used for many different purposes. They served
in all theaters from start to finish. LCTs were built in two models.
The MK5 had a bow ramp only in contrast to the MK6 which had both
a bow and stern ramp providing the ability to drive though it. They
were often used as a bridge from an LST to the shore. At wars end
all MK5s were disposed of while the MK6s were redesignated as Utility
Landing Ship LSU in 1949 and redesignated Landing Craft Utility LCU,
15 April 1956. Created with gmax. 141K
