Grumman
F4F-4 WILDCAT For CFS1 and CFS2
This aircraft Nr 17 flew with VF-6 during March 1942. This stubby
little carrier fighter was easy, forgiving, and even fun to fly. It
was Grumman's first modern all-metal monoplane fighter. The Wildcat
was stoutly constructed, well-armored, and well-armed, with the same
six .50-caliber Brownings carried by the Hellcat, Corsair, and Mustang.
The Wildcat's larger wing, relatively more powerful engine combined
with its best traits gave the Wildcat superior turning and diving
ability. The F4F-4 model had a more powerfull engine and was the first
version to have folding wings. Original Designer: Mauro Giacomazzi.

AB-ROLAND D.VIB V2.00.
The "klinkerrumpf" style of fuselage was a carry over from Roland’s
earlier D.IVb triplane and gave good strength with an appreciable
saving in weight. This method of construction consisted of the overlapping
of slightly tapered strips of spruce which were wedge shaped in section.
These were then glued and nailed to the basic fuselage longerons and
formers to give the D.VIb its characteristic look. The aircraft's
failing was it's inability to climb with aircraft like the Albatros
D.V and Pfalz D.IIIa. Michael Priester. 1.7MB

F4U-1D of Marine Squadron VMF-214 Default Textures only.
This is a repaint of the stock F4U-1A TEXTURES ONLY. This aircraft
represents an F4U-1D of VMF-214 the Black Sheep aboard USS Franklin
CV-13 in March 1945. Led by Greg Boyington's former XO, Maj Stanley
Bailey, VMF-214 joined VMF-452 and VF-5 to bring Franklins corsair
strength to some 70 F4Us strong. "Big Ben's" Corsairs hardley got
into the fight however when a Judy dive bomber placed a bomb amid
31 fueled and armed aircraft on 19 March creating an inferno that
took Franklin out of the war, and off of active duty, nearly destroying
the ship and causing 1,100 casualties. Joe Royal. 594K
