FSX North American TB-25N Mitchell N9494Z
27.95Mb (334 downloads)
Built as a B-25J for the USAAF as 44-30925, MSN108-34200 was converted to a TB-25N at some stage in its service, before being stored at Davis-Monthan in August 1958. Sold in 1960 as N9494Z, she went through a variety of owners before appearing in “Catch 22” as “Laden Maiden”. After filming, Colonel John Stokes bought the aircraft in 1975 and restored the colour scheme as she appeared in the film. Colonel Stokes very kindly sent me several photographs of N9494Z when she wore the scheme that I have used on this model. The late John Jeff Hawke bought her in 1978 to continue her film career appearing in the documentary “Mitchells do fly in IMC”, then in “Hanover Street” as “Gorgeous George-Ann”, and finally as “Thar She Blows” in “Eye of the Needle” in 1980. Her film career over, she was stored at Blackbushe becoming derelict, until 1982 when she was dismantled and trucked to Wellesbourne Mountford in 1982 and then to Coventry in 1985, still owned by John Jeff Hawke/ Visionair International. In 1985 Aces High bought the aircraft registering her as G-BWGR and moving the hulk to North Weald. She was then sold to David Copley in 1998, moving to Sandtoft in 2001. The Brussels Air Museum Foundation bought her in 2005 and she is currently being restored to static condition. I have used the brilliant Brian Withers/Roy Chaffin/Bluebear B-26J RAF MkII and modified the TruNorthSim USA/Africa texture adding the nose art, national markings and tail markings as used by Colonel John Stokes in San Marcos, TX. There is also engine exhaust flames and smoke and, when the main exit is open, the crew leave. The only snag is that Laden Maiden never carried the cheek guns as on the model and I can't remove them.

FSX/FS2004 AX697 WACO YKC Long Range Desert Group
FSX/FS2004 AX697 WACO YKC Long Range Desert Group
15.44Mb (335 downloads)
Built in 1934, msn 3993 was sold to a wealthy Egyptian and registered as SU-AAN. In June 1937, it went to Prince Abbas Halim who then flew it in the “Circuit of the Oases”. When war was declared in 1939, the Long Range Desert Group bought SU-AAN for the sum of £3000, and had it resprayed by a civilian contractor, not the RAF, and it became AX697. This accounts for the photographs of AX697 that show the underside of the aircraft as being dark, not the usual Sky Blue, as on other RAF aircraft. Used by the LRDG for communications and to resupply LRDG patrols and missions, the aircraft did not survive the war. The only surviving piece of AX697 being part of the instrument panel held by the Imperial War Museum in London. Painted on to Paul Bradshaw’s excellent WACO YKC model, the repaint shows AX697 as she was in service with the Long Range Desert Group. Enjoy.

FSX B-24D Lady Be Good
10.89Mb (461 downloads)
Repaint of the Alphasim B-24D Liberator. The crew of the "Lady Be Good" became lost in the darkness while returning from a bombing mission over Italy, and tragically flew past her home base in Libya. Believing they were still over the Mediterranean Sea rather than over the Libyan desert, the captain ordered his crew to bail out as the B-24 ran out of fuel. Eight of the nine crewmembers survived the bailout and attempted to hike out of the desert, but none survived the ordeal. The wreckage and remains of all but one of her crew were discovered sixteen years after their disappearance. Freeware Alphasim B-24D aircraft model included. Panel updates and repaint by R.E. Wyman.

FSX/P3D Supermarine Spitfire PR.XI PL841 and PL965
FSX/P3D Supermarine Spitfire PR.XI PL841 and PL965
14.04Mb (348 downloads)
This is a modification of A.F. Scrub’s Supermarine Spitfire PR.XI, to give it the standard PR.XI range, done with permission, and with two sets of textures. This modification was tested in a flight from Kissimmee to the site of Chicago, Meigs Field and returning to Kissimmee without any need to land in Chicago. The first set of textures is for PL841 as used by 681 Squadron in North Eastern India during 1945. From photographs the serial number appears to be the same colour as the centre of the roundel. This aircraft failed to return from a PR mission to Moulmein, Burma, in June 1945. The pilot, F/Lt Thomas Woodhouse, was missing, presumed killed. I hope this texture does him justice. The second set of textures was created showing PL965 as she was in 2023. This aircraft has a noble history, flying over 40 operational missions over Germany with 16 Squadron during World War Two. After a period with the Royal Netherlands Air Force, she was restored by the Medway Aircraft Preservation Society and joined the Hangar 11 Collection in 2004. For much more detail about the history of this aircraft, see Hugh R. Smallwood’s book, “Spitfire in Blue”.
