AB-Roland D.VIb For Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 The "klinkerrumpf" style of fuselage was a carry over from Roland’s earlier D.IVb triplane and gave good strength with an appreciable saving in weight. This method of construction consisted of the overlapping of slightly tapered strips of spruce which were wedge shaped in section. These were then glued and nailed to the basic fuselage longerons and formers to give the D.VIb its characteristic look. Corley, whose distinguished flying career spanned three of our country's greatest conflicts, namely WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. Lt Col Corely USAF (ret) career included combat in Mustangs, F-86's, F-100's, the ultra-hot F-104 ("Zipper") , F105's and F4 Phantoms.
