The AJ1 Savage was a stop gap bomber used as a naval nuclear naval deterant between WWII and the arival of full jet bombers. It was part prop and part jet with twin radials on the wings and a allison turbo in tail. It never saw combat but was on ready alert and carried the MK15-Mk39 series of gravity nuclear bombs from the decks of US Carriers. After the arrival of Full Jet bombers the AJ Savage series was refitted for naval Tanker duty. The AJ Savage was decomishioned and saw its last action as civilian Fire bombers.
