Russian Spitfire Textures (Category: CFS1 > Aircraft)
0.07Mb (136 downloads)
Russian Spitfire Textures. This is my representation of a Spitfire Mk. 1 given to Russia in the heat of the war on the Eastern front. It was no. 13 in a squadron with a mix of Yak 3's, Hurricanes, Spitfires and also, strangely enough, captured messchersmitts. This spitfire was handed over in 1941, and destroyed in 1943 over Poland. It was stationned originally near Leningrad, but as the war progressed was shifted further across Europe. By Peter Cooper. 69K

P38-F 'Glacier Girl' at The Lost Squadron Museum. In 1992, a group of men and women headed to the eastern ice cap of Greenland to recover a P-38 Lightning lost 50 years earlier. They had to dig through over 200 feet of ice to reach the plane. Today, the plane that the team recovered is the center piece of the P-38 / Lost Squadron Museum. A team is currently working to restore the airplane. The Museum is a living memorial to the men and women who fought in World War II. 512K Updated Oct. 9th
