Benina International 2010 V.1 Scener. located in the town of Benina, 19 km east of Benghazi, from which it takes its name. The airport is operated by the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Bureau of Libya and is the second largest in the country after Tripoli International Airport. Benina International is also the secondary hub of both Buraq Air and flag carrier, Libyan Airlines. During World War II, the airport was used by the United States Army Air Force Ninth Air Force during the Eastern Desert Campaign. Known as Soluch Airfield, it was used by the 376th Bombardment Group, which flew B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from the airfield between 22 February & 6 April 1943. Once the combat units moved west, it was used as a logistics hub by Air Transport Command. It functioned as a stopover en-route to Payne Field near Cairo or to Mellaha Field near Tripoli on the North African Cairo-Dakar transport route for cargo, transiting aircraft and personnel.

A heavy bomber made for United States Army Air Forces during the Second World War, and has the distinction of being the last Allied aircraft to be engaged in combat during WWII. Developed in parallel with the B-29 Superfortress as a fallback design should the Superfortress prove unsuccessful, it only reached units in the Pacific during the summer of 1945, and thus saw only a very few combat operations against Japanese targets before the atomic bombs used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki ended the war. The model is by William Dickens The Flight airfile and dp are by Peperez The Textures are freeware collected or made by W. Dickens. Panel is converted from FS9 C130 panel with no listed author. 2.1MB

FS2004 Quang Tri Airfield, Vietnam, Late 60's era. A model of Quang Tri Airfield, a strategic USMC helicopter base. The 1st and 3rd Division marines at Quang Tri flew CH-46 Sea Knight and UH-1N Huey Iroquois helicopters. Quang Tri Airfield was located just a few miles south of the the DMZ which made it extremely vulnerable to attack. North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces attacked Quang Tri several times during the war. Although it wasn't a coastal base like Cam Ranh Bay or Tuy Hoa, the site of Quang Tri Airfield was very sandy. The sand contrasted with the surrounding terrain and looked somewhat unnatural. Aerial photos confirm that the base had this unusual appearance. This scenery was designed for FS 2002 but it should work in FS 2004. George Knowles. 252K
