This freeware scenery package attempts to represent Advanced Landing Ground A-11 of the US 9th AAF. ALG A-11 was one of 29 Advanced Landing Grounds that dotted the Cotentin Peninsula. Known as Advanced Landing Ground "A-11", the airfield consisted of a single 5000' (1500 m) Square-Mesh Track/Compressed Earth runway aligned 05/23. In addition, tents were used for billeting and also for support facilities; an access road was built to the existing road infrastructure; a dump for supplies, ammunition, and gasoline drums, along with a drinkable water and minimal electrical grid for communications and station lighting. Bear Island v1.x.x must be uninstalled before installing this scenery! // Bear Island v2 is a redux of our original Bear Island scenery, released back in 2013. Although this original scenery was fairly popular, it was not very detailed and used almost all default objects. Now four years down the road, and with the original Bear Island no longer reflecting our current standards, we decided that it was time for a redux.. Bear Island has been completely recreated in incredible detail, utilizing nearly all custom objects. Animated Birds and Dolphins are now the only default objects used in this detailed scenery! Bear Island v2 includes custom hi-definition textured models depicting South Florida native vegetation, trees, and more! Many vegetation textures have been color-matched to blend well with the FTX Global matched photo real. A crisp layer of 10m mesh has also been included to give the island some slopes and elevation. Take off in a Boeing Navy N2S-2 Kaydet from Fun-Air airport in Van Dyne, perform a touch-and-go at Vette Blust, then through 3 hoops and land at Wittman Regl airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The big show in Oshkosh takes place in late July every year. Perhaps 500,000 people and many aircraft show up for it. Note: There is an 8-pack of Oshkosh missions available in Simviation. RAF Blakehill Farm (ICAO X1BK) was an RAF airfield situated in Wiltshire, England. The station was originally allocated to the United States Army Air Forces Ninth Air Force but not used. It opened in 1944 and was home for transport aircraft of No. 46 Group Transport Command. In 1948 the airfield was a satellite of RAF South Cerney and used by training aircraft before the airfield closed in 1952 and was returned to agricultural use. After WWII, GCHQ set up an "experimental radio station", a top secret research facility, on the site of the RAF's wartime airfield at Blakehill Farm. It consisted of huge communications masts arranged in mysterious strategic patterns in the middle of the old airfield. The site was still active in some capacity until the mid 1990s and traces of the former antenna bases can still be seen on satellite photographs. The site is now a Wiltshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve.
