The wing was made even stronger and carried four 20mm cannon. The fuselage was redesigned and the whole airframe was heavier than previous Spitfires, meaning the undercarriage had to be made more robust. In August 2001, the Company announced the signing of a contract with the Dominican Republic for 10 Super Tucano aircraft, to be used for pilot training, internal security, border patrol and anti-drug trafficking missions. The order was reduced to eight aircraft in January 2009, for a total amount of U.S. $ 93 million. The first two Super Tucano aircraft were delivered to the Dominican Republic on December 18, 2009.
