FS2004 Nam Phong RTAFB Vietnam, Late 60's Scenery. A model of Nam Phong RTAFB as it appeared in mid-1972 when much of it was still under construction. Nam Phong was originally an obscure Thai Air Force training base located about 60 miles south-southeast of the large USAF/Air America facility at Udorn. In response to increasing NVA attacks in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam, the US Marine Corps transferred three fighter/attack squadrons (known as “Task Force Delta”) from Da Nang to Nam Phong. A new 10,000 ft. concrete runway was built, and roads, aircraft parking and housing/storage areas were hacked out of the jungle by a joint USN/USMC engineering team. Nam Phong was nicknamed “the Rose Garden” in jest due to the extremely primitive conditions that existed there when the Marines first arrived. The nickname was borrowed from the Marine Corps advertising slogan, "We don't promise you a rose garden", which in turn was inspired by the lyrics of a popular country & western song by Lynn Anderson. The three USMC fighter/attack squadrons that took up permanent residence at Nam Phong were the VMFA-115 “Silver Eagles”, the VMFA-232 “Red Devils”, and the VMA(AW) -533 “Nighthawks”. FS2004/FSX/Accel/P3dv3 Nieuport 28c WWI biplane fighter. The Nieuport 28, developed in France, went in service in March 1918. She was supposed for french and american air troops. Finally France favorized the Spad XIII while US forces took the Nieport 28 as its fighter. The plane was equipped with a rotary engine and reached almost 200 kmh. Dinan - Trelivan Airfield (ICAO: LFEB) is an aerodrome civil, open to public air traffic (CAP), located in the commune of Trelivan 3 km West-South-West of Dinan, in the Cotes-d'Armor.(22) France. FS2004 Quang Ngai Airfield, Vietnam, late 60's era. A model of Quang Ngai Airfield, a rudimentary USMC airstrip about 35 km south of Chu Lai Airbase. The 174th Assault Helicopter Company flew combat support missions from this location. The 4,625' asphalt runway at Quang Ngai could also handle C-123 and C-130 transport aircraft. This scenery was designed for FS 2002 but it should work in FS 2004. George Knowles. 103K
