FM-2-Wildcat VC-93
FM-2-Wildcat VC-93 (Category: CFS2 > Aircraft)
6.26Mb (58 downloads)
General Motors FM-2 Wildcat VC-93 on USS Petrof Bay (CVE-80) off Okinawa April 1945. In 1942, automobile manufacturer General Motors converted several of its east coast factories to aircraft production under the name Eastern Aircraft Division. Eastern received contracts to build F4F-4 Wildcat fighters and TBF-1 'Avenger' torpedo planes, allowing Grumman to gradually reconcentrate its energies on the new, urgently-needed F6F 'Hellcat' fighter. The GM F4F-4s, redesignated FM-1s, had only four .50 caliber machine guns, but were otherwise little changed from the original model. Well over a thousand FM-1 fighters were delivered in 1942-43, including some three hundred for the British Royal Navy. Meanwhile, Grumman had prototyped a new Wildcat under the designation XF4F-8, which was to be produced by Eastern Aircraft as the FM-2. With lightened structure and a more powerful Wright R-1820 radial engine, the FM-2 was notably quicker, faster climbing, longer ranged and more maneuverable than its predecessor. To help control the increased power, the new plane had a distinctive, taller vertical tail. All-in-all, it was a great improvement, and more than four thousand FM-2s were built in 1943-45. Of those, over three hundred went to the British. 7.28Mb (58 downloads)
Messerschmitt Bf 108 B-1 Taifun Unit: IV/JG51 Somewhere in Russia, 1941 The Bf-108 Taifun (Typhoon) was a four passenger cabin monoplane built by the Bayerische Flugzeugwerke originally as a civilian light aircraft. The design by Prof. Willy Messerschmitt in 1933 was the forerunner of the famous BF-109 Messerschmitt fighter. The type's appearances at various parts of the world helped to bolster the reputation of both Messerschmitt and the German aeronautical sector in general. Throughout the mid-to-late 1930s, the Bf 108 was a common sight at aerial competitions, commonly placing in either first or second place in events such as the 1937 Oases rally in Egypt and the 1938 Belgian international Queen Astrid Race. Furthermore, during July 1939, one aircraft established a new altitude class record of 9,075m (29,766ft). Of the 885 airplanes built, 626 entered service in the Luftwaffe. These were attached to combat groups and squadrons for miscellaneous duties, and Luftwaffe headquarters at various levels. For use in North Africa, some of the aircraft were modified to the Bf 108B-2 / trop variant. Also Bf 108 s served in the so-called "German Air Service" (Deutsche Luftdienst), where they were used for various liason purposes. They were also assigned to training schools, but there they were used most often as messengers, and not training. FS2004 Flight Plan for OB-31 Hastings Nebraska (Old) (Category: FS Navigation > Flight Simulator Navigation)
0.29Mb (58 downloads)
FS2004 Flight Plan for OB-31 Hastings Nebraska (Old) IFR high speed low altitude military training route. This is the twelve in a series of FS2004 flight plans I have uploaded. This route goes through flat and rolling terrain in Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. These are great routes for B-52, F-111, B-1B, B-2 A6, A4, Vulcan and any fighter or bomber enthusiasts. Of course you can fly the route with any aircraft of your choice. Included in this package is a gauge by Karol Chlebowski for TFR flying at very low altitude. This gauge will greatly enhance your ability to fly these challenging routes and is a great companion of the flight plans. Another option to download Version 2.0 of my FS2004 mini panel which has all this functionality and more.
