Cathay Pacific VR-HDT 'Miss Macao' was one of two Catalina amphibians bought in Manila by Cathay Pacific and chartered to the Macao Air Transport Company (MATCO), for trading between Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour and the nearby Portugese colony of Macao. On 16 July 1948, ten miles from Macao, a Chinese criminal named Chio Tok fired a .38 bullet into the base of Captain Dale Cramer's skull, and 'Miss Macao' crashed into the Pearl River Estuary with the loss of all passengers and crew save one. A bungled gold bullion robbery, this was the first recorded hijack of an aircraft for material gain. North American A-5 Vigilante updated now with reflective glass, HUD and new VC. It's old, but so pretty...FSX native conversion, full original Alphasim Vigilante with VC. All functions and animations correct in sense and direction, per original FS2004 release.Version 2 updates materials and restores the coded lights. Conversion facilitated by a terrific set of freeware tools; Arno's MDLX with a breakthrough set of new XML definitions by Henk-BRAVO ZULU! Textures in DDS DXT3 format with Martin Wright's DXTBMP, file structure in FSX format. Skullsweat and conversion by LLS. While the model comes in a bit heavier, the frames are buttery, the glass is c'est bon. Note: The VC was pretty badly out of date, so I aliased Piglet's T-2 virtual cockpit. Base package for effects is Bob Chilco's A-5 updates. The repaints by Antonio Diaz for this model are highly recommended. FS2004 Sikorsky S-42 "Pan American Clipper" NR-823M Sikorsky 4-engine flying boat flown by Pan American Airways 1935-1944. Long-range Pacific survey version. With passenger accommodations removed and fuselage tanks installed, NR-823M made 4 survey flights in 1935, scouting the first Pacific routes for Pan Am. Range 3000 miles at cruising speed of 150 mph. FSDS3.5 model with virtual cockpit, master navigation room. Model based on Sikorsky documents from New England Air Museum and photos from U. of Miami Richter library. Flight dynamics modified by Jim Douglass for more accurate performance. A flying boat, not an amphibian. No true landing gear, but beaching gear provided. Detailed list of survey flights included.
