The Royal Aircraft Factory's S.E.5.a went tooth and nail with the Sopwith Camel for the accolade of being the finest British fighting aeroplane of World War I. Designed by a team which included the legendary H. P. Folland, the first prototype was unveiled in December, 1916. The craft utilised a 150-HP Hispano-Suiza engine with a large, automotive-style radiator and truncated exhaust manifolds. The S.E.5.a was widely regarded as a tough opponent by the enemy and as a good friend in the air by its pilots. It was robust, fast, and very easy to fly. The aircraft remains extremely popular among early aviation history buffs and WWI aficionados, and replicas abound, in both full- and smaller-scale versions. Excellent reproductions of the plane can be seen in the films "The Aviator" and "Flyboys", but the best place to see the S.E.5.a in action is in the restored version of Howard Hughes' "Hell's Angels". FS2004 Himalayan Peaks Mesh - Namcha Barwa Highly detailed mesh based on Shuttle Radar (SRTM) data but with many of the void areas filled with elevation data generated from topographic maps by Jonathan de Ferranti. The "Himalayan Peaks" series contains LOD10 terrain mesh of prominent peaks and ridges. There will also be a LOD9 "base mesh" series of the Himalayas. Compiled for FS by Holger Sandmann. Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer S.2B The Buccaneer had been designed as a carrier aircraft and benefited from a very durable airframe. The first S.2 flew in 1964 and was a great improvement over the S.1. Its advanced air blowing system & capacious bomb bay made it much more fuel efficient and manouverable at low speed than its rivals. Originally a Navy aircraft only, the RAF ordered them in '68 and flew the Bucc' into the 1990's when it served in the Gulf War as a laser designator. Requires panel (Search Buccaneer Panel).
