FS2004/2002 Beechcraft D18, SATA - Sociedade Açoreana de Transportes Aéreos, Lda. 1947. The Airline is now known as SATA Air Açores and was the first in Portugal to have a civil, commercial registry aircraft, CS-TAA. Being it's first aircraft, baptised Açor (Azor), and after only two months of service, on the 5th of August 1947, the aircraft was lost at sea, while flying from S.Miguel to Santa Maria (there were no survivors). No colour photographs exist, but with special thanks to Mr. Gualter Cordeiro's excellent memory (retired SATA Ops Manager), it was possible to recreate what was once forgotten. The Ilyushin Il-14 (NATO reporting name "Crate") was a Soviet twin-engine commercial and military personnel and cargo transport aircraft that first flew in 1950 and entered service in 1954. Il-14 was also manufactured in East Germany by VVB Flugzeugbau, in Czechoslovakia as the Avia 14, and in China under the Chinese designation Y-6. The Ilyushin Il-14 was eventually replaced by the Antonov An-24 and Yakovlev Yak-40.
