FSX North American TB-25N Mitchell N9494Z
(Category: FSX > Vintage)
27.95Mb (899 downloads)
Built as a B-25J for the USAAF as 44-30925, MSN108-34200 was converted to a TB-25N at some stage in its service, before being stored at Davis-Monthan in August 1958.
Sold in 1960 as N9494Z, she went through a variety of owners before appearing in “Catch 22” as “Laden Maiden”. After filming, Colonel John Stokes bought the aircraft in 1975 and restored the colour scheme as she appeared in the film.
Colonel Stokes very kindly sent me several photographs of N9494Z when she wore the scheme that I have used on this model.
The late John Jeff Hawke bought her in 1978 to continue her film career appearing in the documentary “Mitchells do fly in IMC”, then in “Hanover Street” as “Gorgeous George-Ann”, and finally as “Thar She Blows” in “Eye of the Needle” in 1980.
Her film career over, she was stored at Blackbushe becoming derelict, until 1982 when she was dismantled and trucked to Wellesbourne Mountford in 1982 and then to Coventry in 1985, still owned by John Jeff Hawke/ Visionair International. In 1985 Aces High bought the aircraft registering her as G-BWGR and moving the hulk to North Weald.
She was then sold to David Copley in 1998, moving to Sandtoft in 2001. The Brussels Air Museum Foundation bought her in 2005 and she is currently being restored to static condition.
I have used the brilliant Brian Withers/Roy Chaffin/Bluebear B-26J RAF MkII and modified the TruNorthSim USA/Africa texture adding the nose art, national markings and tail markings as used by Colonel John Stokes in San Marcos, TX. There is also engine exhaust flames and smoke and, when the main exit is open, the crew leave.
The only snag is that Laden Maiden never carried the cheek guns as on the model and I can't remove them.

FSX Boeing 747-258C EL AL 4X-AXF
(Category: FSX > Civil Jets)
238.09Mb (552 downloads)
She had her first flight on June 7, 1978 from Everett and was then delivered to the Israeli EL AL Airline.
Normally configured for 470 seats, she could also function as a pure freighter as she was equipped with a bow cargo door!
What makes she so special to this day, however, is a flight that took place during Operation Solomon between May 23rd and 25th 1991.
During this Operation, over 14.000 Ethiopian Jews were flown out of Addis Ababa on over 30 Israeli Air Force and EL AL transport aircraft, including three 747s!
On one of these flights, a total of 1,088 passengers were flown to Tel Aviv with this 747, a world record that remains unbroken to this day!
What was also unusual was that this flight was flown without an autopilot, as the automatic trim did not work properly before departure from Addis Ababa
and last but not least, a child was born during the flight, breaking the record twice in one flight!
After 31 Years in Service for EL AL and also for Cargo Air Lines, she was scrapped in July of 2009.
Many thanks to Christian Koegler from the RFP team for the permission to publish this mod with their 747-200 model with VC,
Barnaby Britton for his permission to use his great "RA001, the first jumbo jet" Flight engineer panel photo as 2D & VC FE panel background,
Marco Ravanello & Gianfranco Corrias for the great CIVA INS,
Jacob Larsen and Anthony Eades for the very useful V speeds callout gauge,
Charles Owens for his innovative icing mod,
Philippe Wallaert for his "2D view panning" mod,
Mike Maarse for his "it will knock your socks off" Pratt & Whitney soundset,
Douglas S. Dawson for his great programs that allows us to save and reload Vars,to play Sounds files and of course for his Batterycharger
and to Dietmar Loleit, who passed away in 2020, for his great working TCAS!
Tested only in FSX & Acceleration!

FSX How to Fly a Spitfire PR11 to the Book
(Category: FSX > Vintage)
8.62Mb (70 downloads)
This set of images tells the story of how to fly the SPITFIRE PR XI World War 2 style. It comments upon what is not achievable in any "simulator". I have every year since 2013 flown my "Simulation" of the 617 Squadron RAF raid on the Ruhr Dams back in 1943 and part of that was of course the Photo Recon flights starting in February 1943 and concluding the day after the end of OPERATION CHASTISE, May17 1943. I FLY using the appropriate PILOT'S NOTES as was formed in WW2. My aircraft is set to cruise at 30000 ft at a boost and rpm setting with PN fuel flow rate complying with the Pilot's Notes "55. Economical Flying" and therefore the re-enactment is as good as can be expect from any simulator. The aircraft is not just chucked in the air. IT IS FLOWN. Why not read, then try doing it with your PR XI!

FSX/FS2004 Pilotable Italian WW2 Battleship Roma
(Category: FSX > Misc)
10.81Mb (69 downloads)
FSX/FS2004 Pilotable italian WW2 battleship Roma. It was one of three Littorio-class battleships. Buildt between 1934 and 1942. With a length of 241 m and a beam of 33 m, a power of 128000 SHP on 4 screws this vessels were the biggest and most powerful battelships of the Regia Marina. The vessels were armed with 9x15 inch guns, 12x6 inch and 4x4.7 inch guns plus plenty of AA-guns. The ships suffered during WW2 with many enemy attacks: November 1942 by a british submarine, December 1942 and April and June 1943 by US air rides. On 9th September 1943 due to the Italian armistice, a great fleet of the three battleships, six cruisers and many destroyers sailed from La Spezia to Malta to surrender and handle over the fleet to the allies. The Germans tried to prevent the italian fleet will be transfered to the allies by sending Dornier Do 217 bombers from Kampfgeschwader 100, armed with Fritz X radio-controlled bombs, to sink the italian fleet. Roma was hit twice by the precise Fritz X bombs and sank soon together with 1253 men whilst 596 survived. My model offers plenty of animations: Guns, rangefinder and a Reggiane Re2000 catapult launch. In FSX thirty four camera views provide decks- and external views to watch all the animations. The VC shows a complete nav-bri0dge. Additionally there is an AI-version included. FSDS-model, animations and cameras by Erwin Welker.
