Phönix D.1

Phönix D.I / D.II The Phönix D.I biplane was intended as a replacement for the Hansa-Brandenburg D. I. It was produced in smaller numbers (120 D. I, 45 D. II, and 48 D. IIa fighters) than the Hansa-Brandenburg. The Phönix D.I began production in August 1917 and the D.II replaced the D.I in production in March 1918 . The Phönix D-series fighters are generally considered the best fighters designed and produced in Austria-Hungary. Previously, the Phönix Flugzeug-Werke firm had been contracted to produce the Hansa-Brandenburg D.I fighter under license. It became apparent by 1917 that the infamous Star-strutter could not be developed further, and the company embarked on a new aircraft. The design eventually incorporated a fuselage similar to the D.I and also sported wings of unequal span that ended in rounded wingtips. It was also considerably more powerful, with a Hiero 200- horsepower engine. It located the machine guns within the engine cowling which enhanced streamlining but placed the guns beyond the pilot’s reach if they jammed. The resulting craft was faster in level flight but somewhat unstable and slow-climbing. In December 1917 it entered service as the Phönix D.I and was deployed with army and navy units. The new machine was far from perfect, but it represented a dramatic improvement over the earlier Star-strutter, proving to be a match for Allied fighters. The model, textures. panel and air files are by Captain Kurt. The pilot figures were developed from Wolfi's freeware Japanese pilot .fsc source file. The prop spinning texture is by Kelticheart. Gauges are by Martin Klein with texture change outs by Captain Kurt

FS2002/CFS2 GZR_Norderney-Sylt Version 2.5 1/21/2002 By Richard "GZR_Frenchy/Frenchy 335th" Charlebois GZR_Norderney-Sylt WB is a CFS2/Fs2002Pro set of two airfields and seaplane bases. Located off the coast of Germany the North Frisian Islands were fortified. Sylt was the first German territory to be bombed during World War II. They are approximately 81 nm apart. The set has multiple start locations in Free Flight. These were enhanced even further in Fs2002 Pro. If you Install it in Fs2002Pro (not sure about the Std. version); it will provide entry at several locations (See **Note below). Also, the trees will change foliage according to the season. 525K

North American P-51 / F-6A Mustang Unit:154th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, Tunesia April 1943 Pilot: Lt. Alfred C. Schwab For aid to Great Britain under the Lend-Lease program, the USAAF ordered 150 model P-51 Mustangs with a Letter of Intent on 7 July 1941. Four 20mm cannon replaced the mixed caliber machine gun arrangement of the British Mk I Mustang. As production of the P-51 airplanes ramped up in late 1941, it was decided that the USAAF would retain fifty-eight of the 150. The first example (41-37320) was delivered to the USAAF as the one-of-a-kind P-51-1-NA to serve as the prototype F-6 photographic reconnaissance and mapping variant. Another 54 were delivered as P-51-2-NA airplanes that were modified to serve as photo reconnaissance planes. In the summer of 1942 these 55 were re-designated as F-6A-1-NA rather than P-51-1/2 airplanes. One P-51 (41-37426) was acquired by the US Navy for aircraft carrier sea trials and was assigned US Navy Bureau Number 57987. The last of the keepers were two P-51s (41-37352 and 41-37421) which were retained to become the XP-51B airplanes. Therefore, the RAF only received 92 of these aircraft as Mustang Mark IA airplanes instead of the 150 it had requested. It's been written that the F6 modification included installation of two K-24 cameras behind the pilot s seat or alternatively, that one was behind the pilot seat and one in the rear fuselage. However contemporary photos show only the single camera behind the pilot seat and never any second camera. FM-2 Wildcat VC36
FM-2 Wildcat VC36 (Category: CFS2 > Aircraft)
5.85Mb (24 downloads)
General Motors FM-2 Wildcat VC-36 on USS Core (CVE-66) in the Atlantic, 1944. This composite squadron was credited with sinking 6 German U-boats. In 1942, automobile manufacturer General Motors converted several of its east coast factories to aircraft production under the name Eastern Aircraft Division. Eastern received contracts to build F4F-4 Wildcat fighters and TBF-1 'Avenger' torpedo planes, allowing Grumman to gradually reconcentrate its energies on the new, urgently-needed F6F 'Hellcat' fighter. The GM F4F-4s, redesignated FM-1s, had only four .50 caliber machine guns, but were otherwise little changed from the original model. Well over a thousand FM-1 fighters were delivered in 1942-43, including some three hundred for the British Royal Navy. Meanwhile, Grumman had prototyped a new Wildcat under the designation XF4F-8, which was to be produced by Eastern Aircraft as the FM-2. With lightened structure and a more powerful Wright R-1820 radial engine, the FM-2 was notably quicker, faster climbing, longer ranged and more maneuverable than its predecessor. To help control the increased power, the new plane had a distinctive, taller vertical tail. All-in-all, it was a great improvement, and more than four thousand FM-2s were built in 1943-45. Of those, over three hundred went to the British. Bf109G-2_2.LeLV_34

Messerschmitt Bf109G-2 by Design Team Daedalus Unit: 2/LeLV 34 Finland, March 1943 Pilot: Kapt. K. Lahtela During the summer of 1941, the Messerschmitt design team was engaged in updating the BF 109F-4 as the dictates of the air war was forcing the need for greater speeds. The result was the Gustav series, of which the first substantial production run was the Bf 109G-2. Adopting the more powerful but heavier Mercedes Benz DB 605 engine required airframe and landing gear strengthening which also added weight. But it was felt the increase in speed made the loss of some maneuverability acceptable. The fuel filler access was moved to the spine behind the cockpit. No change was required for the cowling shape but a deeper oil cooler was needed. The broad blade of the F4/Z was made standard. The lower quarter cockpit window panel was deleted and vent scoops could be added to the new replacement metal panel. The wheel wells reverted to a squared end in anticipation of wheel covers that in the event were not adopted. Generally speaking the appearance of the G-2 was very similar to the F-4 without close examination. Deliveries of the G-2 began in May 1942 with 1,587 produced by February 1943. However, there is no "standard" Bf 109G-2. Although production only ran 10 months before the G-3 and G-4 were introduced, three separate companies and multiple sub-assembly production facilities were involved which inevitably produced minor variations, such as pilot head armor type, cockpit vents and tail wheel types. So each model we have created has its own unique features to portray the specific aircraft presented as accurately as possible. This aircraft was one of 48 G-2s supplied to Finland. It had a cockpit vent on the starboard side only, a 2 piece curved top pilot head armor, and a non-retractable tail wheel. Pstrany developed the models using Paul Rebuffat's Messerschmitt model - with permission - as a starting framework and updated the shape, and added a plethora of details, new parts, and ideas. Pstrany also developed the models for the drop tanks, weapons and racks. Captain Kurt created paints for each, the 2D instrument panel, the individual .dp files, the air files and the aircraft.cfg files. Mav SCASM edited each model so that they have animated wing slats, drop tanks, and other features, as well as optimizing models for the best possible framerates. Mav also developed the idea for the 2d panel to be offset for the Revi gunsight to match the CFS2 reticle.
